The idea of clamping the collar on the drill with a clamping screw instead of a set screw clamping directly on the bit is a FAR superior way to do it. Potentially better grip, no wobble etc.etc. However, this set has a way to go. The clamping screws are very fine thread metric in aluminum which isn’t a very good idea. also, the slot doesn’t go far enough across the collar so ‘as-is’, they can’t really clamp the bit. I found that squeezing the collar on the bit with Vice-grips, THEN, tightening the screw was the only way, I could get the collar to grip the bit. Putting some molly grease on the screw helped too. I’m going to cut the groove deeper in each collar so they can flex in easier Just the way they come, they’re pretty useless, but they have the potential of being excellent drill stops..Update 2/16/18: I’ve cut the groove deep enough now on 3 to allow them to flex easier & that definitely cures the problem. Wish the screws were coarser thread though, just lube the threads & use discretion when tightening.
