  1. UPDATE 2/16/18: 4 STARS NOW

The idea of clamping the collar on the drill with a clamping screw instead of a set screw clamping directly on the bit is a FAR superior way to do it. Potentially better grip, no wobble etc.etc. However, this set has a way to go. The clamping screws are very fine thread metric in aluminum which isn’t a very good idea. also, the slot doesn’t go far enough across the collar so ‘as-is’, they can’t really clamp the bit. I found that squeezing the collar on the bit with Vice-grips, THEN, tightening the screw was the only way, I could get the collar to grip the bit. Putting some molly grease on the screw helped too. I’m going to cut the groove deeper in each collar so they can flex in easier Just the way they come, they’re pretty useless, but they have the potential of being excellent drill stops..Update 2/16/18: I’ve cut the groove deep enough now on 3 to allow them to flex easier & that definitely cures the problem. Wish the screws were coarser thread though, just lube the threads & use discretion when tightening.

  3. Does what they are supposed to.

So far them seem to hold onto the bit solidly. You really have to crank down on some of them, but overall i’m happy with them.

  5. Finally something that makes sense!

I have done woodworking and carpentry for 40 years and I’ve collected hundreds of ‘do dad’s’. These stop collars are the best thing since ketchup! I’ve been using the standard stop collars and I’ve always been irritated that they are never straight on the shaft due to the set screw. These collars with the split set screw tighten the collars around the entire drill bit shaft so it is straight. I would NEVER recommend the old type with the set screw that locks directly on the shaft. Thank you for making something that makes sense.
